The University of New Brunswick (UNB) will host the Eleventh International Workshop on Telework, August 28–31, 2006 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. This year’s Workshop will be the first held in North America, occurring in Canada’s first city to support a free urban wireless network. The aim of the event is to generate interaction and the sharing of ideas among academic researchers and business practitioners around the development and maintenance of computer-mediated networks. All papers selected for presentation will become part of the printed proceedings, which will be available to all registrants. Authors of select articles will also be invited to submit their paper for publication in a forthcoming book.
The theme of the 2006 workshop is "e-Networks in an Increasingly Volatile World". The increasing rate of technological innovation and a growing concern for continuity through periods of large-scale interruptions from natural, technological, and human-induced events are some factors contributing to a heightened sense of uncertainty and social turbulence. A major challenge today is how individuals, organizations and regions can leverage human capital to collaborate through unprecedented and complex work/life-scenarios. This workshop looks specifically at examining work strategies that involve e-networks that contribute to greater preparedness. We currently invite papers in the following themes:
Special Streams for Workshop 2006
1) Mitigating risk via E-networks.
2) Creating public infrastructures that support E-networks
3) Work/life balance: The tangled web of work and home networks.
Standing E-Work Streams
1) Organizational Change (complexity, ambiguity, conflict)
2) E-Collaboration, Technological Innovations & Support (platforms, collaboration)
3) Workspace Design (facilities, virtual space)
4) HRM Practices (diversity, professional development, retention)
5) E-learning in the workplace (content, delivery)
6) Community/Regional Initiatives (job creation, community viability, public policy)
