Also, this document has been around for quite a long time (Jan. 4 according to the website)... My understanding was that there was a new document about to be circulated...

Anyone know anything of this...

Ärende: [WSIS CS-Plenary] Consultations towards the establishment of the Global Alliance

Dear all,

This is just to inform you that the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is looking for comments and inputs from a very wide range of ICT related entities in the perspective of the establishment of the Global Alliance on ICT and Development. CONGO already outreached towards its membership for comments in this regard, but Renate was also asked this morning to circulate this information among civil society involved in the WSIS process.

Based on the previous consultations and the document on and elements of a Global Alliance for ICT and Development, available on-line at http://www.unicttf.org/perl/documents.pl?id=1579), there are still some core issues to be further discussed about the working methods and activities of the Global Alliance.

We have identified it within three clusters as follows:

1- Functioning modalities:

Which governance mechanism for the Global Alliance?

2- Activities:

Which priority issues and areas for action?

3- NGO participation:

How to fully buy in all constituencies?

We have been informed that DESA would like to see the reflection go further by the end of February. Your comments/ideas on the above would be very much appreciated. CONGO had set up a deadline at 14 February for consultation among its membership. Therefore please respond as soon as possible to wsis@ngocongo.org or be directly in touch with the DESA staff.

Best,

Philippe Dam
